Cloud computing

Description

Cloud computing means using the internet to access things like storage, software, and services instead of having them saved or installed on your personal computer or phone.

Imagine this:

Instead of buying a CD to install Microsoft Word or buying a hard drive to save your photos, you simply:

  • Open your browser
  • Log in to a website (like Google Drive or Netflix)
  • And everything you need is already there — apps, movies, storage, etc.

You're using someone else's powerful computer (called a “server” in a “data center”) to do the work for you, and you can access it from anywhere as long as you're online.

Real-Life Example:

  • Before cloud computing: You buy a flash drive to store your files and install Microsoft Word on your PC.
  • With cloud computing: You use Google Docs to type your documents and Google Drive to store your files — no flash drive or software installation needed.
